Weekend Sea Swimming, Coastal Walking & Yoga Retreat in Cornwall

Join us for our 3 night weekend wild swim and coastal walking retreat in Cornwall from Friday to Monday. Stay in a beautiful country estate and enjoy a day with swim coaches on the beach learning the benefits of sea swimming followed by a swim and the next day a coastal walk. Feel revitalised with yoga twice a day and allow yourself to escape from your day to day to reset.

Join us on our 3-night sea swim and coastal walking yoga holiday in Cornwall. Based within a stunning estate near Newquay and only 15 minutes away from some of the most famous beaches in north Cornwall, like Porth Beach, Mawgan Porth, and Watergate Bay, this location gives the perfect opportunity to relax in the beauty of the Cornish countryside while enjoying activities on the coast in the daytime.

After high demand, we have introduced sea swimming to our calendar alongside our usual coastal walks. If you have the time or energy, you can try surfing or SUP. This cold-water sea swimming experience is for all levels. You are split into two groups: beginner and experienced. We ask that you have a good level of pool swimming.

On our 3-night yoga retreat in Cornwall, we have teamed up with a local Cornish cold water sea swimming company that are Open Water Swimming and Beach Lifeguard qualified to lead this half-day activity with a briefing and some swim fit exercises before heading into the sea for a swim followed by a warm drink and post-swim snacks on the beach with a debrief. Learn how to sea swim safely and build confidence if you are new to it. If you are a seasoned sea swimmer, share your experiences with others.

On the second day, enjoy a coastal walk along the coastal paths, enjoy the views and have an ice cream or even another dip in the sea.

After a fun day on the beach, come back to your country pad to relax in nature, enjoy yoga in the spacious yoga shala, delicious food, massage and cosy sofas to sink into, or if sunny, relax in the sun on a blanket on the lawns. The garden surrounding the manor house and additional properties is a 22-acre expanse of lawns, ornamental lakes, camelia woods, orchards and an incredible walled vegetable garden. When not enjoying yoga in the large studio, the lawns create a perfect space for classes.

There is something for everyone on our 3-night yoga holiday in Cornwall. If you prefer walking more, you can enjoy this as the coastal paths are easy to follow. If you want to enjoy swimming, SUP or surfing, we can help arrange any of these activities.

You can make this retreat what you want, and you can enjoy the relaxation and reinvigoration of spending time in this beautiful place.

We run our three-night Cornwall retreat throughout the year in April, May, June, July, October, and New Year. We also offer a four-night mid-week retreat.

Do you love Cornish cream tea? Learn how to make a vegan version here!

If you enjoy surfing in Cornwall, we can arrange this with our local surf school on Mawgan Porth beach.

Accommodation in Cornwall Estate

Recently converted and restored, this truly stunning estate manages to maintain the grandeur of a true Manor house while embracing a modern feel.

Beautiful touches such as White Company London linen in all of the bedrooms and REN products in all of the bathrooms add little luxuries that make the whole experience feel even more special.

The estate is split into three properties. The main one being the Manor House, the hub of the home as this is where the kitchen and dining room are located. In fact, you may recognise the kitchen as it is where celebrity chef Rick Stein has used to film his TV shows many times! Within the Manor are 8 bright and spacious bedrooms that all boast views across the gardens. There are also multiple communal areas with a drawing room, study and library for you to relax in.

The Apple Store is a more modern space only a skip across the courtyard from the Manor. With 6 bedrooms there is also a beautiful sitting room with plenty of comfy sofas and its own kitchen. The Apple Store is also where the yoga studio is located! Through a door in the kitchen you find yourself in the bright and super spacious yoga studio boasting stunning oak beams, pillars and high ceilings.

If you want total privacy, there is also the adorable Laundry Cottage. A fully self-contained cottage attached to the Manor that is full of character and a beautiful first-floor bedroom perfect for a solo traveller or a couple. As a former laundry, this building was where the water was heated to wash the linen and has an enormous original Tudor inglenook fireplace fitted with a wood-burning stove.

There are plenty of ways to reach us on our retreat!

Car

Arriving by car means you have plenty of freedom to explore on your own terms too. We will give you the full directions to the venue on booking. It is roughly a 5-hour drive from London.

Depart St Austell  from 12pm onwards with the direct train to London Paddington

We arrange a WhatsApp group prior to the retreat so that you can arrange shared taxis together.

When booking or arranging travel, please be aware that the retreat arrival to the retreat is at 4 pm and earlier arrivals may be asked to wait until the house staff and team are ready.

We welcome all levels, as it is a large group and so you are split into two groups, beginner and more experienced. Cold water sea swimming is different to pool swimming so if you are a good pool swimmer and haven't done much sea swimming we would ask that you inform us that you are a beginner cold water sea swimming.
If you have your own wetsuit please bring it with you, because this is an activity that requires a wetsuit. if you don't have one you can hire one for £15 that we organise for you.
We recommend you have a good level of general fitness, and can swim in a swimming pool with a good level of competency.
This is for all levels with some walking experience. The walks aren't difficult regarding incline but my be long and so a good level of fitness is required.

Sustainability

We are working towards reducing our carbon footprint, and here are some ways we, as a company, are doing this.

We are a 88% vegan company, 10% vegetarian and 2% fish or meat (only when staying in boutique hotels that offer these options). This makes up a huge percentage of carbon emissions that we avoid so easily because our food is still delicious, balanced and even more creative. So, thanks to you all for enjoying our healthy (mostly) plant-based meals.

The difference: Most travel companies struggle to reduce their travellers’ meat and dairy consumption, which accounts for a large portion of their carbon emissions.

We stay primarily in one location for the duration of the retreat. We have started staying in a few locations on our long haul, but it is limited to 2 or 3 locations over an 8 – 10 night period. Staying in one place means low carbon emissions because we aren’t burning fuel to get around.

The difference: Other adventure travel companies move around every two days, using alot of petrol in vehicles for sometimes only 1 or 2 people.

Our activities are low-impact—yoga, hiking, surfing, skiing/boarding, whitewater rafting, SUP, and kayaking are all very low-carbon activities, in fact, zero-carbon (except skiing/snowboarding due to the ski lifts, which is also low). These activities are included in the price we measure. The carbon may increase with travel to and from these activities in vehicles.

The difference: Other travel companies can include high-carbon activities in the price, such as jet skiing, quad biking, and jeep driving, which increases their carbon footprint.

We run more than half of our retreats and holidays in the UK; these are very low-carbon holidays.

We currently don’t measure our guests’ travel as part of our carbon output because our guests don’t only come from the UK, so it is hard for us to predict this. We also don’t include travel in the holiday price, which is not part of our calculations. We know that we provide these holidays, so we are looking to include this carbon measurement in the future so we are investigating how we can reduce this.

The carbon measurements at the top of the page with the icons are per person for the whole retreat.

Ultra-low-carbon holidays

These holidays are below 200 kg per person, and our UK retreats are below 100 or even 70 kg, so these are great adventures for low carbon breaks.

Ski holidays are actually low in carbon!

In France, many ski resorts are turning to green energy to power the lifts. If you eat low in meat and dairy while you’re there and hire your ski equipment, this makes your trip as low-carbon as possible.

How can you help?

There are ways that you can help reduce your carbon when coming on our retreats and holidays:

Travel by train, try slow travel across Europe and the UK.
If travelling abroad to Europe or further afield, choose carbon capture schemes, check out Ecologi. Offsetting is not the best thing to do these days, but try carbon capture where you pay for carbon to be absorbed into the environment.
Car share UK – we recommend when guests travel by train to arrive and depart at the same time to taxi share – which helps keep costs and carbon emissions down. Why not consider car share, too? Most guests who drive come alone or with a friend; we have WhatsApp groups that, if you like, you can see who is driving from your area and enjoy getting to know each other on the way to the retreats, and save on your carbon emissions at the same time!

We are by no means saints when it comes to producing carbon, as a travel company we know this is very difficult to reduce. We are working to reduce our carbon output each year by measuring it and then creating plans to reduce it. We are reviewing all our venues and asking them how they can improve their carbon reduction as we don’t own any of our venues but we would like to work with them to help in any way we can. We want to be transparent with this, so please get in touch for more information. As we change things, we will update the website.
