In summer the alps have very relaxing energy and a slow pace, surrounded by the gorgeous bright colours of spring and summer with wildflowers and wild blueberries contrasting with the snowcapped mountain tops. Anytime in the French Alps in summer is a great time to be there. In fact, July and August are great times to be there to get away from the heat and crowds of the coastline in Europe. It is still possible to enjoy long hikes in peak summer because with altitude it gets cooler. As well as hiking in the summer there are lots of bike tracks for downhill or road cycling, try parapenting or even white water rafting. It can be an active holiday in summer but there is always time to relax in the sunshine and read a good book.
